Teaching

Since 2010 I have taught and developed the academic curriculum for classes and workshops on wearable technology and e-textiles for Universities and colleges. The purpose of these is that students explore a range of new process and novel materials to construct computationally enhanced prototypes that are aesthetic and functional. Especially, students learn how to interconnect traditional techniques and basic materials with new open technologies and smart materials and the process of “design through making”. The main idea is to understand notion of interaction and interface, particularly in this high-low tech context, by using raw material and simplifying technology. Also, that students gain a creative approach to innovation and adquire a basic understanding about electronics, physical computing and digital rapid prototyping.

SOFT CIRCUITS CAAD

American University of Sharjah, 2017

The goal of this workshop was to introduce visual communication and multimedia design students to  methods used within interaction design to combine open source hardware, electronics and physical materials into working prototypes. This workshop allowed students to investigate a series of tools and methodologies to handcraft sensors and paper-textile based circuits.

Estos trabajos seran expuestos durante la Design Week Bilbao 2015.

CIRCUIT ÉLECTRONIQUE & COUTURE

The class exposed non-technical students to a series of tools and methodologies to explore diverse soft circuits techniques for integrating electronics in textile or paper creations. Also, they experiment with electronic activated inks such as thermochromic inks to generate displays that are both decorative and functional.

CRAFTING TECHNOLOGY & FASHION NARRATIVES

ESDEMGA Fashion Design School, 2012

This course of fashion technology is offered as a basic introduction to electronic and digital devices with new methodologies for embedding  technology in textiles. During a week, students will learn to build soft buttons and analog circuits using fabric or paper. Also, They will experiment with reactive paints and novel materials such as  yarn ,fabric or conductive thread along with other electronic components.

At the workshop a number of interactive prototypes and sketches  exercises will made to familiarize students with emerging technology projects in fashion technology.

FUTURE CITIES

The New School Parsons + Tsinghua University / Future Cities, 2011

Future Cities by paperlab is a four-day workshop developed for the visiting students of  Tsinghua Universityat Parsons. The goal of the workshop is to explore the integration of paper, conductive materials, and electronics to create paper based interfaces. The workshop will expose students to a series of tools and methodologies utilized to handcraft a suite of sensors and paper-based circuits. Students will experiment with Polyhedron paper shapes, light and sound as the main design elements to create paper-based objects that are responsive to user interaction.

The goal of the class Soft Circuits: an exploration of new media materials in the contexts of tangible interface is to explore the integration of new materials and electronics into paper and textile based interfaces. The class will expose students to a series of tools and methodologies utilized to handcraft a suite of sensors and paper-textile based circuits. Students will also experiment with electronic activated inks such as electroluminescent and thermochromic inks to generate displays that are both decorative and functional. For the final project, students collaborate to create a group or individual project.
